Training

Hamelin Trust has always been committed to the training and development of staff and has its own in house training department.

The department offers appropriate training and development to the Trust's current workforce, volunteers and to members of the three ESF projects managed by the Trust, thereby ensuring that all those who work for Hamelin Trust feel valued and supported in carrying out their role.

Under legislation that came into force in April 2002 (Care Standards Act 2000), all social care staff new to learning disability care must register to undertake the Learning Disability Awards Framework (level 2 or level 3). Within this framework, the Certificate for Working with Learning Disabilities (CWLD), are four units that meet the Skills for Care (formerly TOPSS) Learning Disability Award Framework (LDAF) Induction and Foundation Standards, which must be met within six weeks and six months, respectively, of employment.

Following the successful completion of the CWLD award (after negotiation with managers and staff) candidates are offered the NVQ in Health and Social Care.

The Trust has a seven-day formal Induction programme, which meets most of the requirements for the LDAF Induction and Foundation units.

Hamelin Trust is an approved centre with City & Guilds to deliver CWLD and NVQ Care awards.
