Social Enterprise

What is Social Enterprise?

Social enterprises are businesses that have social or environmental objectives; they reinvest their surpluses into the business or community. They are organisations interested in overcoming social injustice or exclusion and contributing to society. Social enterprises contribute to society in many ways, they:

  • Tackle social and environmental problems
  • Set new standards
  • Raise the bar for corporate responsibility
  • Improve public services and shape public service design particularly as ethical consumerism increases in popularity
  • Offer a high level of engagement with users and a capacity to build their trust
  • Pioneer new approaches
  • Attract new people to business
  • Encourage under-represented groups (e.g. women, youth and offenders)

Bio Diesel - What is Natra Diesel?

Natra diesel is a social enterprise project, based in Rochford, managed by Hamelin Trust. It involves producing biodiesel, a clean burning, renewable fuel made from waste vegetable oil. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, non-toxic, carbon neutral and essentially free of sulphur & aromatics.

To produce our biodiesel we use a system known as the Fuel Matic which is manufactured by Greenfuels UK Ltd, more information on bio diesel and the manufacturing process can be found at www.greenfuels.co.uk

Hamelin Trust has developed this project after securing funding made available through the Essex Community Reuse & Recycling Network (ECORRN), further information can be found at www.ecorrn.org.uk

The biodiesel produced will be used to fuel the vehicles used daily to carry out the Trust's work, those vehicles include our minibuses and charity shop vans. It will also be sold to the general public to make this project a sustainable social enterprise. To make Natra Diesel succeed we need your help: If you are local to the project We Need Your Waste Vegetable Oil, and we will collect it for FREE. If you have waste vegetable oil from your fryers that you dispose of or need somebody to dispose of it for you then give us a call. You can support us and help the environment by letting us collect your waste vegetable oil and turn it into biodiesel.

If you would like to help then please contact Hamelin Trust on 01277 653889 .
