Roots & Shoots

The five acre grounds at Sutton Bridge Farm provide an ideal training environment for a work experience project in gardening and maintenance for people with learning disabilities, which has been improved with ESF funding. Approximately 40 programme members gain horticultural training and work experience on the project. All work towards an accredited qualification. Conservation methods are adopted in the training to maintain the natural development of the land at Sutton Bridge Farm.

Work by the members on the project has developed a large sensory garden for Gowlands. The project team has also purchased 2 new vehicles thanks to the Big Lottery funding and use of these vehicles enables the Project Team to maintain the grounds of the Trust’s other services. The project has also been successful in gaining some external contracts with other organisations and local people in the area.
